family car trip

Well, it has been a while, a month or so, since I last wrote. Finally passed through the Christmas season. It was really good. Celebrated at Bill's house, that was fun. Christmas is always fun at our house. After Christmas, Julie, her husband Rob, and I traveled to Michigan for a family wedding. Beautiful, young couple, my niece's son, so good to be with the extended family again. But the trip there. Not so good. I live in Illinois 16 miles from Indiana. It took us 2 hours and 40 minutes. My sister lives 3 hours from my house, it took us 7 hours. Trouble was the ICE. Lots of it. The good thing was that in spite of everything, we just enjoyed each other. Ate our sandwiches, visited. No one complained. No one was angry. 7 hours. We enjoyed each other. Now, isn't that nice? Always knew that Rob was a good guy. The trip was hardest on him. Julie and I were just there. He was driving and having the responsibility of keeping us all safe. And that's not all of it either. We also had FOG, lots of it. We pray before we start out on trips, put an angel in front and an angel in back. Seems like it works. We saw a dozen spin outs. Two immediately in front of us!! Terrible driving, but a great wedding and family.
The big story around here now is weather again. The midwest in snowed in with tempertures very cold. We are expecting a minus 30 degrees tonight. Minn and Wis are having it even worse than Chicago. I'm prepared. lots of food in the house, several good books to read, the paino is tuned, a good friend lives in my building, guess I can manage these stay in the house days. I used to lead a single again ministry and I taught that we had to get to a place where we like the person we are with when we are alone. Are you to that place? It's a great place to be. You can get through a lot of difficult places then.
Can you relate to this story? Write to me. Do you like the person you are with when you are alone? There is a message here in this bad-weather story. What does it say to you?
Bye for now. Skip

The Reason For The Season:YOU!

You, and me, are the reason for the season.

Last year, or maybe it has been 2 years, my Pastor, George Thomas, shared with us on the reason for the season. Actually, it's us, we are the reason for the season. Because of our sinfulness, causing a separation from God the Father, He sent His only Son to redeem us from our sins (by His suffering and death on the cross). Once we repent and accept Him (Jesus) as our Lord and Savior, we are redeemed and can come boldly before the throne of mercy and grace and are reunited with the Father. It's as if we have never sinned. We are the reason Jesus came to the earth...to reunite us with the Father God.

Can you comprehend such love? Friday I went with my Pastor and his wife, Bishop Freddie and Marygaye Steel, to the minister's Christmas banquet from the Great Lakes area Church of God. The speaker spoke on this enormous love the Father has for us that He sent His only Son to be born a man, to suffer and die for our forgiveness; to reunite us to the Father. The speaker showed us some photos of only sons of the ministers that were present. Could I sacrifice any of my children so that the people I know could ALL spend eternity with God? That kind of love is beyond us. But God...so loved...He gave...His son...for our redemption.

It's a different perspective, amazing, past my understand, such love. So friends, rejoice, "You are the reason for the season."

A Dios Sea La Gloria!! To God be the glory. Bless you, Have a happy Christmas Season.

It's my family!!

The following is a "Mother's Right." Promise I will get on to other things. I did warn you these kids are my pride and joy.

Sharon- she is so busy, doing all sort of things, always in one class or another, travels about. She has a beautiful Salon and Spa (Glamour To You, 7008 W. 127th St. Palos Heights, IL, (708) 448-8998)... free plug for Sharon. Mothers are like this. If you live here this is the place to be pampered. They really know how!!

Bill has 2 great kids and the most wonderful garage and family-fun room around. It is a real bachelor's place: pool table, darts, hot tub, refrigerator, work bench, 2 pinball machines, fireplace, a slot machine, some Japanese games. It's the Fun Place to go. He is a certified journeymen, maintenance.

David and Dolly have 3 kids. Dolly can cook or decorate Anything!! They give the best dinners!! Dave has a man-cave in the basement for his tools and projects. He just finished a shed in the backyard, built a train and gym set for the kids. David has his Master's in Business.

Julie and Rob have 3 grown kids, all in college, and the world's best dog. No one, absolutely no one, makes a better breakfast than Rob; it's to die for!! Julie will earn her Master's Degree in Education this Dec.

That's it for an update on the kids. Yeah, bragging rights. Rejoice with me that the Lord has been gracious to me. They all know Jesus too. I would hope to write every Monday. I have some good things to share with you. Drop me a line too.

Introduction

I have just returned from a 9 year mission stay in Honduras, Central America. I loved it there. I was with Mision Caribe, an independent church planting mission, and with World Gospel Outreach, a medical mission.

I am a registered nurse and a licensed Minister of the Gospel. I have many stories to share with you. Missions have been good to me.

Before going to missions, I was the founding director of a ministry to Single Again Adults. I'll tell you about that too. I wrote a book, "Towards A Brighter Horizon." You'll get that information too.

Best of all I have four grown children, the love of my life. I am blessed by having children who love and care for me and each other. I'll share with you some funny things about them too. They are a joy!!

What else? I write, teach, and preach some, so I will put some of that on my blog too. Any of the aforementioned topics.

Now? Well, now I am a part of Life Church of Chicagoland through the Church of God in Cleveland, TN where I have been appointed Director of Missions. I have many, many plans for their mission ministry, including trips to Chicago, Native American reservations, foreign countries, etc. One day at a time these things will come to pass. As the Lord directs we shall progress.

I learned to close all my work in Honduras with the phrase "A Dios Sea La Gloria," or "To God Be The Glory." I'll be writing another day.
